Fire lighting

Fire Lighting sessions at Frylands Wood are usually run in our purpose-built campfire circle. We use a range of fire lighting methods, including fire strikers, matches and Vaseline & cotton wool.

If a Frylands Wood Instructor is running your fire lighting session, then we will ensure all participants are given time to develop their skills in lighting a fire, before introducing challenges to apply their skills in keeping a fire going. We will ensure the session is run in as safe a manner as possible and ask you to support us in this by managing your participants behaviour throughout.

Shelter building

Shelter Building sessions at Frylands Wood are run on WH1, behind the Fort. We normally use only natural materials in our sessions but we can add tarps & ropes as an option if you wish.
If a Frylands Wood Instructor is running your shelter building session, then we will ensure all participants are given time to develop their technical understanding in types of shelters, before starting the build task itself. We will ensure the session is run in as safe a manner as possible and ask you to support us in this by managing your participants behaviour throughout.

If you are running your own sessions, then please ensure you read, understand & sign the related ‘Conditions of Use’ before starting the session. It will then be your responsibility to ensure the session is run in as safe a manner as possible, including managing your participants behaviour throughout.
