Our Team

Our team is made up of both staff and volunteers – we have five paid employees, a committee managing and supporting the work of the Centre, and a service crew of over 100+, who are all members of the Frylands Wood Active Support Team.

Centre Managers

Barry

Centre Manager
Barry is our centre manager and is responsible for running Frylands Wood throughout the year. He has been our Centre Manager since 2008, and has been involved in Scouting in Lewisham since he was a child. He is a former Group Scout Leader in Lewisham District and currently volunteers as the County Assessor for Archery in Greater London South.

Jason

Deputy Centre Manager
Jason became our Deputy Manager in October 2024. It follows on from having successfully been our Interim Deputy Manager during a very summer season 2024 after Jorge’s departure. Jason has a real passion for Frylands Wood & knows exactly what needs to be done to help us improve. He is no stranger to Frylands Wood and has been visiting since he was a Beaver and progressed through Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. Jason was also a Scout Leader in Croydon District and has been crewing at Frylands Wood since 2013. In 2016, Jason started a level 2 apprenticeship in Outdoor Pursuits here at Frylands Wood. He then went on to complete a level 3 apprenticeship in Outdoor Activity Instructor in 2018. Jason does love a good cup of Earl Grey tea so if you see him out and about don’t forget to offer him one.

Activity Instructors

Baz E

Activity Instructor
Baz E is one of our Activity Instructors. A frequent visitor to Frylands Wood with his Scouts and Explorer group, he started helping out as a crew member, helping to run activities during our busy season. Baz E is also a very talented craftsman and has built some wonderful additions to Frylands Wood. Baz can normally be found on the Archery range telling bad jokes and blasting out Pink Floyd!

Louie

Activity Instructor
Louie has been through all the sections in scouting, leading the way for others. Since the age of 14, he has been a valuable member of our explorer crew. He is now one of our activity instructors here at Frylands Wood. Louie is not shy to some hard work and loves to get stuck in!

Office Team

Sue

Finance Officer
Sue is the Centre’s Finance Officer. Sue started in late 2022 and she is looking after our budget and inner workings of Frylands Wood. She has steamed straight into the position with a positive outcome. Sue is a Queen’s Guide and Queen’s Scout and has been both a Venture Scout and Scout leader over the years. In her spare time she is involved in drama groups working with adults and children with learning disabilities and enjoys performing with them. Sue is always up for a laugh!

Kevin

Volunteer Chairman
Kevin is the center’s ‘top dog’. Part of a weekly maintenance crew, Kevin is always dropping in and getting his hands dirty in some maintenance work and keeping the site safe. When he’s not on site, Kevin works tirelessly behind the scenes in his newly appointed role of Chairman.

Chris

Volunteer Co-deputy Chairman
Chris is a Deputy Chairman of Frylands Wood Scout Outdoor Centre together with Vicki. We split the various job’s that need doing, which works really well. I love Frylands , it’s a real oasis and there’s nothing better than seeing it busy with young people enjoying themselves. I’m a mad Crystal Palace fan, so if you fancy talking football, come and have a chat.

Cam

Providore Manager
Cam has recently joined the volunteer service crew at Frylands Wood. He is now our Providore Manager and is taking the providore through a massive change in the way it looks and also how it operates. Cam loves cooking for people and being hospitable and keeps the moral of the team up by giving them great food!

Alan

Management Committee
Alan is a member of the volunteer Management Committee, who looks after the CCTV and site security. Alan has been crewing at Frylands Wood for over 16 years and is the Operations Director for a security company. In his spare time Alan likes to go driving and also practice target shooting.
